Just as in any other survey, remember that life safety surveyors will also be looking at Environment of Care (EC) compliance as they survey a business occupancy. (For more information on the new standards, effective July 1, see pages 1 and 2.)

In answer to a frequently asked question (FAQ) about whether EC plans were required for business occupancies, TJC answered yes, and so are emergency management plans.

“Management plans are required to cover each of the Environment of Care (EC) and Emergency Management (EM) chapters and are to cover all the functional areas of an organization. If care and service is provided in business occupancy sites, then the plan must address any particulars that may differ from other occupancies within the organization.” For the full FAQ answer, go here.
